Trilobite, Gerastos/Proetus Sp. – X738-E4

These well preserved trilobites are great specimens – all hand selected by us. Gerastos/Proetus is a species of trilobite that lived some 400 million years ago. These trilobites are sourced from near Alnif, Morocco, where they’ve been carefully extracted by palaeontologists. Each sits on its hard limestone matrix – some are lying flat, and others in the typically enrolled form.

Note: All of our fossils are genuine, and these trilobites are not perfect – some may have small areas of shell restoration, surface weathering, or small scratches from preparation.

Trilobites were a diverse group of marine arthropods – now long extinct. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet, with over 25,000 species having been described. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons, they left an excellent fossil record.

This is a select lot,  what you see in the photo is what you will receive.
