Note: Some citrine is natural, though this citrine has been heat treated in China to shift the colour, mimicking the natural geologic processes that create citrine naturally. This gorgeous smoky citrine colour is unique to China, quite different to the deeper yellows and oranges of Brazilian heat treated citrine. Natural citrine is also becoming increasingly difficult to source, so heat treated citrine helps us to meet market demand. Additionally, heat treated Citrine uses lower quality rough, turning a C grade product into a beautiful A grade product – all part of using as much stone as possible from the mine; a core part of ethical sourcing.

After recently visiting China and coming away with a deeper understanding of the supply chains there, we have expanded our range of suppliers. This has enabled us to further expand our range of products, mostly direct from the lapidarist. We’ve inspected a range of showrooms, workshops, and stone supply yards and carefully selected who we want to work with – those offering operational transparency and high levels of worker safety and conditions, alongside high quality, beautiful products. The artisans we spoke with are very fairly paid, even by New Zealand standards, have good access to all PPE, and obviously enjoy their work. Quality control is important to us and having now visited, we’re able to ensure what we receive is of excellent quality.
