Aletai Meteorite

These are very nice examples of Aletai meteorite, first discovered in 1898 in China. To date, almost 75000kg of meteorite fragments have been found across a strewn field estimated at around 500km long. More recent finds of smaller pieces has enabled us to offer these small slices. 

Aletai is a nickel-iron meteorite belonging to the very rare chemical group IIIE-an, with a distinctive Widmanstätten pattern (a lattice of fine interleaving kamacite and taenite bands or ribbons), exposed here by carefully cutting and gently acid etching the surface.
