It’s a worthy side kick, there to enhance, refine, and resonate with your personal will and agency. Taking first steps on your personal journey is made easier with LDG - you’re in control, you’re stable, yet flexible and open to change. It’s an energetic and playful stone, and while it's helpful to encourage us to be more social and network savvy, that sense of control remains - you define your boundaries, you honour yourself, and you choose your own adventure. Stick with us here while we nerd out - amidst the sandy landscape of the Great Sand Sea Desert in Libya and Egypt, small pieces of very distinctive yellow glass lie strewn across the surface. Much speculation and mystery surrounds this strange geologic phenomenon. A 1966 study aged the pieces to 29 million years old; twice the age of moldavite, and older than the sandy source material in which it lies. TEM analysis shows the glass is largely silica based, but notably contains various types of zirconium oxide, indicating both extreme temperatures and extreme pressures were involved in the formation of this glassy material. This suggests one of two things - an atomic bomb or a meteorite impact. Given Archeologists discovered a beautiful piece of jewellery in Tutankhamun’s tomb containing a piece of Libyan Desert Glass, we can assume with certainty that this glass, like its sister moldavite, was formed through a meteoric event. Studies on this stone are ongoing, each one adding a small piece to the puzzle that helps us to better understand the origin of this amazing little stone.

Ikaite is a super rare, metastable crystal - it’s unstable; its very existence is fleeting outside of a very specific set of natural circumstances. These pseudomorphic crystals result from an unusual geologic process where citrine has replaced the ikaite, retaining the characteristic crystal structure. They’re stones of transition and forgotten wisdom. They’re a very new find from nearby Boulemane in the Middle Atlas Mountains, Morocco. These are citrine crystals like you’ve never experienced before.

Thought to have been mined out decades ago, they’ve recently come across a second source nearby. Genuinely rare, this geologic oddity is a stone to treasure. Its rarity means little study has been done into the properties of Nundorite, though they’re thought to be stones of focus, encouraging us to be present in the moment, away from the distractions life throws at us. On another level, they’re somewhat of an energetic bridge, connecting us with deep earth energy to feel grounded in this place, to find our tūrangawaewae.

These precious mineraloid stones with their vibrant flashes of colour hold a special place in the lore of so many ancient cultures and stories abound about their origin. These beautiful uncut stones from Welo, Ethiopia are a more recent find, having only been commercially available for around fifteen years now. These are hydrophane opals - formed following volcanic processes. They’re generally bigger, brighter, harder, and more affordable than sedimentary opals like those found in Australia. Their formation also gives them a bigger, bolder, more vibrant energy than their cousins people have become familiar with. Opal is said to intensify the emotions, showing the true nature of the bearer, while harnessing life force energy, strengthening our instinctive will to live and thrive. It’s also super pretty.

I think my favourite thing about pink amethyst though is the way it helps us change down a gear and appreciate life at a slower pace - these stones embody 'lagom' - the Swedish notion of not too much, not too little - just the right amount. Hold your pink amethyst and find your flow and balance - let go of the struggle, the resistance, and the troubles.

These beautiful Golden Calcite Rhombs are from Naica, Mexico. The natural crystal shape is also known as Iceland Spar (the first examples found in Iceland…) and is notable for its double refraction - an object seen through the crystal will be doubled. The horizontal cleavage (the natural planes along which the crystal will shear or break) means they’re also often laden with little rainbows. There is some variance in the shades of pink.
Pink Mangano Calcite
These gorgeous pink stones are sourced from Peru. The deliciously pink colour comes from the manganese content, differentiating it from other pink calcites. Mangano Calcite is a useful aid in resetting your heart energy, opening space for bold and confident change so you can live a life full of joy, love, and compassion. Pink Mangano calcite has perhaps the softest most delicate energy, but don’t let that fool you - these little stones are packed full of intention and they get stuff done.
Pink Samadhi Quartz
These Pink Himalayan Samadhi Quartz Clusters are sourced from high in the Himalayas, in the sacred Kullu Valley, India - once known as Kulanthapitha, or "End of the Habitable World." And they're all dug and carried out by hand. The geology crew can't agree if it's aluminium or iron impurities that make these gorgeous crystals pink but arguably they're not rose quartz, nor just iron stained - they're their own unique thing, and they're rockin' it. These clusters radiate a gentle, blissful energy that'll caress your heart chakra. Meditate with your Pink Himalayan Quartz to feel the warm embrace of unconditional love envelop you. Keep it close and it'll bring a lasting joy for life, and optimism for the future. They're kind of like a care bear for grown ups.

Commonly known as Fool’s Gold, Pyrite is distinctive for its bright, silvery metallic appearance - sometimes with a golden brassy hue. This common moniker does somewhat do pyrite a disservice though - it’s a powerful and attractive stone in its own right, with an array of crystal shapes and collabs with other crystals making it even more interesting. Some like to collect specimens in different shapes and from different localities, and some like to appreciate the nuance of energy between these varying pieces. Whatever your reasons, Pyrite is a crystal that continues to fascinate. It’s bolshy, it’s got your back, it’s a stone of intention. While it’s usually known and used for attracting wealth, abundance and success (particularly for fledgling businesses), Pyrite helps us to look objectively at ourselves, identifying any behaviours, habits, or issues that may be holding us back. This awareness allows us to move forward with greater intention.

Scolecite walks at a slower pace, a different beat, almost in a different time zone - but once attuned to this slow pulse, we can work with it as a powerful stone of ascension while it intricately removes bedded in energy blocks around the heart. Some use these energies of Scolecite for gaining better insight into and repairing wayward energies in whakapapa/lineage, while others focus on finding inner peace, and finding a flow with love. Just quietly, it’s also super pretty.

The gentle, nurturing energy of these stones creates space for deeper meditation, lucid daydreaming, and even vision quests. They’re frequently used for divining or scrying, and make a powerful ally for healing others.
Shark Teeth - Otodus Obliquus
Otodus obliquus is an extinct species of mackerel shark (and an ancestor of the Megalodon Shark). It lived from the Paleocene (66 million years ago) to the Miocene (5 million years ago) Epochs. Otodus obliquus teeth are distinguished from other species by their triangular crown, smooth edges, and the ‘cusps’ (little teeth) on their roots, used by the sharks to hold on to their prey securely. These teeth are sourced from Morocco, the colour matching the soil/rock in the vast phosphate mines from which they’re dug. Sharks are mostly cartilage, so teeth and vertebrae are the only fossilised remains.
Shiva Lingam
These ancient holy stones are sourced from the Narmada River, north of Mumbai in India. The river stones are a sedimentary sandstone largely comprising crypto-crystaline quartz with iron inclusions. These are stones of purity and personal authenticity - incredibly powerful tools, yet super easy to work with, making them an instant crowd pleaser. We're big fans.
Silk Agate
These spectacular agates have beautiful, intoxicating patterns. The tight, swirling, and sometimes orbicular patterns are stunning and we can’t stop looking at these agates! These are get up and go stones - they’re all about pushing through the lethargy and seizing the day. Opportunities are pretty great but can often pass on by, so we love how silk agate can give us the boost we need to make the most of the moment, get stuff done, and to be confident in doing so. Today’s vibe is big and vivacious - let’s go. Dubbed silk agates in light of their soft, swirling patterns, these stones are also often labelled (arguably incorrectly) as sardonyx. There’s also a lot of talk about these stones being enhanced, and despite being assured they’re natural, from doing a lot of reading, it appears these stones have been heated to accentuate the contrast and bring out some colour. Heating stones to enhance the colour is a traditional process dating back thousands of years, with examples found in ancient Indian temples and Egyptian tombs. The techniques used have changed very little over the years, and while we’re not big fans of artificial or modified stones, this is another great example of taking an otherwise unsaleable dull and/or colourless natural stone and heating slowly and gently over several days to create a premium product that highlights the natural patterns within. And while the beauty of these stones may be only skin deep, the attitude and energy they possess goes to their very core.
Silver and Dyscrasite

Use Sodalite in Syenite in your practice and, like a beacon, it will guide you forward. A note: "Yooperlite" is also Sodalite in Syenite, specifically from the shores of Lake Michigan around the Upper Peninsula. This super nice guy, Eric, found it on the beaches there - the first source of sodalite in the region. He named the stone after the local people, known as yoopers - for U.P. or Upper Peninsula and built up an amazing experiential business, running tours to find the stones. The stones are fairly unusual and few and far between. More recently these similar stones from Russia have hit the market and adopted the same name to build on Eric's success. It's a bit like people calling Pakistani DT quartz, Herkimer Diamonds, or BC Jade, pounamu. Provenance is important.

Like moldavite, tektites are generally thought to have formed as a molten impactite following a meteorite impact. These tektites are likely from an impact some 700-800 thousand years ago, with tektites strewn across China, Indonesia, and down into the Pacific. The characteristically black, pitted stones are often chipped so these stones have been lightly tumbled to retain the shapes and surface pits, but to remove the chips.
Tektites help us to understand that we are small, but important drops in the celestial ocean. They draw on universal energy to help us see the bigger picture and take informed, grounded, rational steps towards spiritual enlightenment. These are excellent stones for meditation to help us experience an expanded consciousness.
